This paper deals with the ancient floors brought to light in Luni, in a domus facing the cardo maximus dating to the first half of the 1st century BC. In particular, the triclinium was paved with opus sectile and this type of pavement was not until today documented in Luni, having this state of preservation and this chronology. The opus sectile consists of non-marble rhomboidal slabs of different colours which form a perspectival cubes motif with a central geometrical pseudo-emblema; square marble slabs frame the entire pavement. Moreover, the atrium and the tablinum were paved with geometrical black-and-white mosaics, while the peristyle has a floor in opus caementicium with polychrome stone inserts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
