Benign diseases of the esophagus including congenital anomalies, cysts and duplications, achalasia, diverticula, benign tumors of the esophagus and colon substitution for certain benign lesions have been reviewed. Emphasis on surgical management of a number of these disease states has been stressed. Esophageal substitution in 13 cases of benign stricture of the esophagus was performed. The jejunum was used in three cases and the colon in ten. Two cases illustrating colon substitution are reported. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
