Abstrakt: Previously unknown bis-α-hydroxyphosphine oxides were synthesized by addition of secondary phosphine oxides to dicarbonyl compounds obtained by binding two salicylaldehyde molecules through ether-type spacers. The resulting compounds are of interest as potential biologically active substances, complexing agents, and initial building blocks in the synthesis of macrocyclic compounds with pendant phosphorus-containing substituents.
