The article presents features of the Edilbay sheep breed. Its new «Povolzhsky» type has been compared with the original breed; conditions of keeping sheep on the territory of the Volgograd region have been analyzed; their productivity and quality indices of the obtained meat and dairy products have been determined. Integrated methodological material has been developed on the basis of the research conducted, so the importance of the Edilbay sheep breed of the «Povolzhsky» type and the intensive development of the sheep-breeding industry as a whole have been substantiated. Generally accepted zootechnical, mathematical and laboratory methods have been applied. The «Volgograd-Edilbay» selection and genetic center modernizes and improves the meat and lard production, consolidates economic features at the genetic level and adapts Edilbay sheep to local conditions. The authors have proven high adaptive abilities, nutritional and biological properties of meat and dairy products obtained from Edilbay sheep of a new «Povolzhsky» type grown in arid desert, semi-desert and steppe regions. The results of the study confirmed the relevance of the work on breeding and improving the Edilbay sheep breed of the «Povolzhsky» type. The resulting meat and dairy products were of good quality, and the high animals' productivity is an important financial factor. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
