Abstrakt: Improving the quality of manufacturing is a demand inside the production enterprise. In turning, the nice of the product may be seen from the surface roughness of the product that is stimulated by the machining parameters used. This research's targets are to find out the effect of spindle speed and depth of cut on the roughness of AISI 1045 material on conventional turning. This observe makes use of a pre-experimental design with a one-shot case study. This research was conducted at the Centre for Vocational and Extension Service Training (CEVEST) Manufacturing Workshop, Serang. The sampling approach used is non-probability sampling with purposive sampling type. In this research, AISI 1045 medium carbon steel used as a sample with a length of 60 mm and diameter of 25 mm, 9 specimens each received one of kind treatments on spindle speed and cutting depth. Collecting data in this study using direct observation techniques and data analysis using quantitative descriptive analysis techniques and research instruments using observation sheet instruments. After the turning process, the process of testing the roughness value is carried out. The results showed that there was an impact of variations in spindle speed and variations in depth of cut, where roughness was directly proportional to depth of cut and inversely proportional to spindle speed. From the analysis of the data obtained, the most optimal roughness value was obtained from the cutting depth which is 0.2 mm and spindle speed which is 501 rpm, that is 3.48 µm and the highest roughness was obtained from the cutting depth which is 0.6 mm and spindle speed which is 252 rpm and, that is 8.57µm.
