People with special health care needs face inequalities in access to dental care. We surveyed patients at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Dentistry Special Patient Care clinic to determine which barriers to accessing dental care are the most difficult. We found that routine dental care is considered very important for patients with special needs, but the greatest difficulty they have in accessing dental care is finding a dentist willing to treat them.
