Abstrakt: Temperature variations in the ocean are related to changes in the acoustic velocity and these can be detected using acoustic measurements. In the North Atlantic various acoustic experiments have been done over distances of 100 km. Analysis of these data requires a reliable and preferably fast forward modeling technique and this is a challenge. Most analysis thus far has been done using ray tracing. Computation of waveforms using ray tracing is however not easy and also not reliable as non-geometrical arrivals also exist. We present a new and efficient modeling technique based on the ray-Born approximation. The computationally most demanding part, ray tracing from source/receiver positions to scattering points is done on a GPU. This makes it possible to compute waveforms for a high resolution velocity model and should be useful in analysis of the observed data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
