The followers of Companions are the ones who learned the knowledge of revelation from the Companions of Holy prophet (PBUH) and met them in the era of faith. The Companions conveyed to them what they had learned from the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and they conveyed it to us without any change. The status of the famous and great among these followers in Tafsīr and Ḥadīth is based on their virtue and scholarly status and strong reasoning. Famous followers include Mujāhid ibn Jubayr, Sa’īd ibn Jubayr, ‘Alqamah, ‘Ikrimah, ‘Ata ibn ‘abi Rabāḥ, Ḥasan Baṣrī and Imām Ibrāhim al-Nakha'i. There sayings and opinions are of great importance in the famous type of Qur'anic commentary, Tafsīr Bil-mathūr. These people were very careful in copying the commentary traditions and in the same way they were keeping in view the principles of complete transmission. Therefore, their fame is higher than that of other minor followers, because most of them were exemplary in jurisprudence and fatwā, as well as in other Islamic sciences, and were at the forefront of rank.
