Urine from rabbits immunized against dinitrophenyl and nitrorodophenyl was analysed for antibody content. Sixty to ninety percent of the hapten-binding activity was, on gel chromatography, found to be eluted at the same position as Feb. No binding activity of lower molecular weight could be observed. After purification the active protein was identified with Fab by physicochemical and immunological analysis. No degradation of intact antibody in urine could be observed. However, on passive immunization with 7S antibody, the main activity in urine was found in the Fab fraction. The results are discussed in light of a previous lack of reports on Fab in urine and earlier descriptions of low-molecular-weight urinary antibody. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
