Abstract—The effect of methyl red on the microstructure of a copper galvanic coating deposited on some anodized aluminum alloys is demonstrated. The methyl red in an acid medium containing copper ions (II) is found to form a tetrahedral complex, which is adsorbed at the cathode surface and favors refining the deposit structure, a decrease in the roughness and porosity, and an increase in the corrosion resistance.
