Achieving easy cleanability by using hydrophilic additive is an imminent perspective. In this study, easy cleanability to coating was induced by the incorporation of hydrophilic additives. The additives were synthesised using the suspension copolymerisation of hydrophilic methacrylic acid (MAA) with hydrophobic isodecyl methacrylate (IDMA) monomer at different weight ratio. The prepared additive p(MAA-co-IDMA) was characterised with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, water absorption, differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic light scattering. Out of these combinations, the p(MAA) shows a better functional, dimensional and thermal property. Hence, p(MAA) was characterised by using 13C-NMR, XRD, HR-TEM with SAED and SEM. The p(MAA) was incorporated in the water-based binder at various concentrations. The additive dispersion, hydrophilicity and easy-cleanability of p(MAA) incorporated binder were evaluated with SEM, contact angle and stain-test, respectively. The 0.5phr p(MAA)-incorporated coating sample shows better hydrophilic and easy-cleaning property than others. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
