Abstrakt: This study aims to determine the direct influence of ethical leadership on employee engagement, and the role of organizational commitment in mediating the influence of ethical leadership on employee engagement. This research was conducted on public organizations in Indonesia. The study population was all employees in the Regional Secretariat of Southeast Sulawesi Province totaling 626 people. Determination of the sample using the Slovin formula with a precision of 5%, thus the research sample amounted to 244 respondents. Data collection using questionnaires and research data were analyzed using smart PLS ver 3. Research results: ethical leadership has a positive and significant effect on employee engagement, ethical leadership has a positive and significant effect on organizational commitment, organizational commitment has a positive and significant effect on employee engagement, and organizational commitment has a positive and significant effect on mediating the influence of ethical leadership on employee engagement, and the value of the mediation path coefficient is greater than the direct influence thus. The results of the study also show that employees who form a long-term relationship with their workplace will be involved in the activities of their work units and involved in organizational activities. Leadership behavior changes the level of commitment of followers; hence, the commitment to be a mediator between leadership style and employee behavior. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
