Combustion in a channel with a variable cross-section at Mach numbers of the undisturbed flow M <2 in.the channel part with a constant cross-section is studied numerically. The problem is solved in an axisymmetric formulation on the basis of the unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier – Stokes equations closed by the k-ε turbulence model. The gaseous hydrocarbon fuel (ethylene or kerosene) is fed axially. Combustion is initiated by a shock wave from a throttling jet injected downstream of the fuel injector. It is shown that ignition and combustion acquire a different character as the Mach number and stagnation parameters decrease. At the Mach number M = 2, a structure resembling a pseudo-shock is formed. At M = 1.7, a transonic region is formed; at M = 1.4, the combustion becomes subsonic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
