Concrete and reinforced concrete shear: An improved strength calculation method.

Abstrakt: The issues of concrete and reinforced concrete resistance to shear and strength calculation of joints and concrete and reinforced concrete members in areas near the supports are considered. The variational method in the theory of concrete plasticity and the principle of virtual velocities are applied. The problems of strength of a concrete wedge as a model of a compressed zone over a dangerous inclined crack and strength of an inclined compressed strip under the shear action are solved. The specifics of the stress-strain state of the failure zone and influence of determining factors on the strength are taken into account. Concrete is considered as a rigid-plastic body. Plastic strain is considered to be concentrated in a thin layer on the failure surface of elements. Based on the analysis of the obtained results, an improved method of calculating the strength of joints and concrete and reinforced concrete members by inclined sections is proposed.
