The use of intravenous hyperalimentation has proved to be a valuable and often life-saving modality in 212 patients over a five-year period. There was no mortality and rare morbidity directly attributable to the therapy per se. The use of this modality requires full knowledge and understanding of the physiologic and pathophysiologie processes involved. In addition, there must be meticulous attention to various technical details and continued expert supervision. If these precepts are followed, the use of this modality should have wider application at the community and community-affiliated hospital level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
