Survey was conducted in three agro climatic zones of Telangana State for cattle egret nesting preferred trees during their breeding seasons in different habitats like near to the village vicinities, human settlements and agricultural fields and also recorded breeding success on these trees. The breeding period was from April to August and preferred trees are Prosopis juliflora, Acacia arabica, Acacia nilotica and Syzygium cumini in the selected zones these trees are being characterized by thorny branches, light weight stems and the trees located inside the water that not only kept the predators away but also provided enough protection. In Southern Telangana Zone around 10 Species of trees were identified with 65.2% of completed nests, while in Northern Telangana Zone 4 species of trees were identified with 53.1% of completed nests and suitable for successive breeding. In Central Telangana Zone, 11 tree species were colonized with 59.3% of completed nests. Cattle egret is an insectivorous bird and collects feed from the agricultural fields and their surroundings in three agro climatic zones. Therefore, an awareness program about the beneficial status of cattle egrets in three agro eco systems is recommended to protect and to promote their habitats from anthropogenic activities.
