Daily activities schedule of rhesus monkey was studied by using scan sampling method (Altman, 1974; Kumar, 2014). In each month from March, 2021 to February, 2022, monthly periodic visits, were made in Bir Bara Ban Conservation Reserve Forest of district Jind to record various activities of male rhesus macaques and female rhesus macaques, respectively. The diurnal period of the day was divided into three phases, i.e., morning phase (6:00 AM – 11:00 AM), noon phase (11:00 AM – 3:00 PM) and evening phase (3:00 PM – 6:00 PM). Both males and females of rhesus macaques performed resting, feeding with searching food items, locomotion, sleeping and other activities during the study period but revealed variations in the time spent in their activities in different seasons. Male rhesus macaques revealed maximum day feeding performed more in all the three phases, i.e., morning, noon and evening phases of day in all the four seasons, namely, winter, summer, monsoon and autumn. These also revealed significantly more locomotion in monsoon season while standing activity more in summer season during all three phases in all the four seasons. On the other hand, females of the rhesus macaques revealed that day feeding performed more in all the three phases, i.e., morning, noon and evening phases of day in all the seasons i.e., winter, summer, monsoon and autumn. These also revealed significantly more locomotion in monsoon season while standing activity more in winter season during all three phases in all the four seasons. However, male and female spent variability less amount of time in morning as well as evening phases for day roosting activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
