It is a challenge to distinguish hadron initiated air showers from those initiated by primary gamma photons in detecting high energy gamma point sources using ground-based particle detector array. In this work, we have studied some methods of gamma hadron separation using the distribution of Cherenkov photons associated with cosmic ray air showers applying Monte Carlo method. Simulation is done corresponding to observation level for HAGAR (High Altitude GAmma Ray) telescope array using CORSIKA simulation code. Formation of a hump in the Cherenkov lateral distribution is found to be a distinguishing feature for a gamma initiated shower. In this paper, we propose a new parameter in distinguishing gamma from hadrons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
