The article "Differential diagnosis of pruritus" highlights the importance of establishing a differential diagnosis plan to identify the causes of pruritus in animals. Pruritus is an unpleasant sensation that causes the desire to scratch, lick, or bite the skin. The importance of taking a good medical history and evaluating the signs and secondary lesions associated with pruritus to reach a correct diagnosis is mentioned. In addition, the visual analog scale of pruritus is used to quantify the intensity of pruritus. The article describes the most common diseases that can cause itching in dogs and cats, such as allergies, parasitic diseases, neoplastic diseases, bacterial dermatitis, fungal dermatitis, and autoimmune diseases.
