Multinational companies operating in Brunei's oil and gas industries uses different process safety management (PSM) and analysis techniques, leading to different approaches and actions to address process safety risks. Local and international data was gathered through a survey specifically focused on the standards, guidelines, regulations that each participant has experienced on process safety in their career. Common challenges encountered by local users are management or leadership commitment to process safety (11.9%), mechanical integrity and management of safety critical devices (5.3%), and management review and intervention for continuous improvement (4.9%). One of the common factors that contribute to the challenges encountered are human errors. This can be linked to the competence management of skill, knowledge and attributes of employees, which is a critical factor in reducing potential human errors. Building Process Safety competencies requires support, incentives and time within the organization. Simultaneously, this encourages research collaborations with local institutions, allowing various data sharing and data accessibility from stakeholders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
