This paper proposes a unique technique for increasing the intensity and external quantum efficiency (EQE) of white organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) by incorporating micro/nano-metric structures such as plano-convex and plano-concave nano-lens array, and micro-pillars array on the substrate layer. The simulations were carried out using finite difference time domain method. The basic OLED model produced an EQE of 14.93% where the effective refractive index (ERI) was 1.83. On the contrary, the plano-convex elliptical nano-lens array engraved OLED showed an EQE of 16.32% for ERI of 1.75, which was highest among all kinds of OLEDS. Moreover, plano-convex elliptical nano-lens array engraved OLED exhibited significant improvement of electroluminescence light intensity that was∼15 times higher than the basic OLED at the Near Field. The wavelength spectrum confirmed the generation of white light. Because of the excellent light intensity, efficiency, and light distribution, plano-convex elliptical nano-lens array based OLED can be regarded as a potential candidate of white OLED.
