Thermoelectric cooler has a high power consumption, which reduces the coefficient of performance of the thermoelectric. A PWM controller can reduce this power consumption by regulating the power input into the TE device. Varying the duty cycle of the PWM affects the temperature difference of the TE and it is observed that the duty cycle and temperature difference is not a linear relationship. The temperature difference is optimum around duty cycle 40% and 50%. Hence, the TE power consumption can be reduced by half while sacrificing only 10% temperature reduction, leading to an increase in cooling performance of the TE device. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
