Abstrakt: The piston pumps (PP), used in Drilling Rigs to circulate the drilling fluid, have a cylinder made of metals and a piston with elastomers sleeve, that limit the durability of pumps. Standards, like ISO 15136.1 & 2 for pumps, developed by manufacturers and users committees, provide requirments for design, quality design verification etc., but do not define specifically the elastomers for the piston and the metals for the cylinder. Each PP manufacturer uses specific materials for pump construction. In this paper, an erosion wear analysis is represented with classic models for materials usually used for these PP, respective elastomers such as butadiene rubber (BR), nitril butadiene rubber (NBR), hidrogenated nitril butadiene rubber (HNBR) and poliamide (PA6) in couples with cast iron, hard chromium coated steel and nitride steel. Also, a classic drilling fluid (KC1-PO) was used for drilling oil and gas wells. For this analysis some classic models were used, respective Finnie, Bitter and Hutchings models.
