Abstrakt: Background: A clinical spectrum of mucocutaneous manifestations may be seen in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV); these manifestations are of clinical importance. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of the mucocutaneous manifestations in our patient population, as well as to signify the role of dermatologists in diagnosing the disease in the light of common mucocutaneous manifestations. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective study that included HIV infected patients who have visited the outpatient clinic of Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa, Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine, Department of Dermatology and Venerology. Results: A total of 57 patients were included in this study. Seborrheic dermatitis and pruritus were the most common cutaneous manifestations that were observed in our patient population. Herpetic ulcers, viral warts, hair loss and folliculitis were also common. The common mucosal manifestations were periodontitis, candidiasis, xerostomia and aphthous ulcers. Conclusion: Dermatologists have a pivotal role in the diagnosis and follow-up of the HIV infected patients since the mucocutaneous manifestations can not only guide through the diagnosis but also may give information about the immune status of the patient.
