Infectious endocarditis (IE) is a disease caused by a microbial infection of the endothelial surface of the heart – valvular and/or mural. We present a clinical case of a 67-year-old female patient with active endocarditis of the mitral and aortic valves, manifestations of left-sided congestive heart failure (CHF), several embolic events, severe comorbidity, including recurrence of ovarian cancer after surgical treatment 10 years ago. The patient had clear indications for surgical treatment of the mitral and aortic valves with very high operative risk and with unconvincing benefit for one-year survival. The operation was postponed due to a recent embolic stroke. Despite the complex medical therapy the patient deceased after 34 days in hospital. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
