Abstrakt: The article focuses on antigenically distinct strains of Ross River virus (RRV)from North Queensland in Queensland and Coastal New South Wales. RRV is euzootic on the east coast of temperate Australia. The drift from a presumed common ancestral virus might be related to different components of the primary cycles available in the two areas, although there is no firm evidence for this. Both Queensland (Q) and Nelson Bay (NB) antigenic types have been recovered from Aedes eigilax and the Q strain isolated from this vector in Townsville on the east coast of Cape York peninsula appears antigenically identical to these subsequently recovered from Culex annulirostris at Kowanyama on the west coast of Cape York.
