Abstrakt: This article describes the stimulation of colony growth of mouse bone marrow cells in vitro by non-irradiated feeder layers of mouse kidney or embryo cells. In this study, no attempt was made to compare the activities of cells from kidneys of mice of other ages. Little or no colony production was found using cells from embryonic kidneys as the feeder layer, whilst numerous well developed colonies were grown on cells from 1-2 day-old mouse kidneys. The specificity of kidney feeder layers was tested by using kidney cells and marrow cells from mice of different histocompatibility groups in various combinations and by the use of rat kidney cell feeder layers for mouse marrow cells and vice versa.
