The World Heritage List itself The Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage establishes a list of properties that have outstanding universal value, called the World Heritage List. Any large landscape area on Earth - and World Heritage sites tend characteristically to be "large" when you consider the sweeping African savannah, the giant Mt Everest, and the aptly-named Great Barrier Reef - comes with a collection of challenges.
