Total 315 pregnant women has been interviewed and data has been collected for various aspects viz., age, educational status, socio-economic condition, gestation period, haemoglobin level, parity, interval between babies etc. The WHO (2005) report says, the prevalence of anaemia among pregnant ladies in developed and developing countries is 14% and 51%, respectively. However, the prevalence of anaemia among pregnant ladies in India is 65-75%. Anaemia is one of the principle deciding factors for pregnancy consequence. The effects of anaemia in pregnant ladies include low birth weight, premature birth, perinatal and neonatal mortality, and increased risk of maternal morbidity and mortality. This study investigated the prevalence of anaemia with respect to social aspects among pregnant ladies in the Srinagar Garhwal region of the state of Uttarakhand in India using bivariate analysis and ANOVA test.
