Modern-day materials are expected to perform their intended functions under all operating conditions. This is made possible by developing structural features through a series of physical, chemical, and thermal processing techniques. The field of cryogenic treatment of metals and alloys is evolving as is evident from recent literature. Aluminium and its alloys are extensively used in engineering applications due to their high specific strength, good machinability, and high strength to weight ratio. This paper reviews the role of cryogenic treatment on tribo-mechanical, morphological and corrosive properties of aluminium alloys, and the work is significant as this alloy is extensively used in transportation and aviation industries. The safety issues and scope for future work are also highlighted in this comprehensive review. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
