Abstrakt: Aidoo carefully emphasizes that cases of sexual assault against enslaved people by members of the same sex were not expressions of same-sex desire or homosexual identity according to our present-day understandings. Chapter 2 shows that rape of enslaved men was another facet of sexual violence and humiliation experienced by Black men in the pre- and post-abolition eras. Men were no less vulnerable to rape, though the idea of rape itself is historically and contemporarily understood as a violation of a woman perpetrated by a man. [Extracted from the article]
