Abstrakt: Our first article, by Martijn van den Bel, draws on detailed research in Dutch and French archives to show how Dutch merchants were crucial actors in promoting the mid-seventeenth century "sugar revolution" in the Francophone Caribbean. Welcome to this "double" issue (no. 2 and 3) of volume twelve of I The Journal of Early American History i in which we offer our readers four articles, including a review article, another of our forums - in what has become a regular I jeah i feature - in which the contributors discuss a new book of interest to early Americanists with the author of that book, and an extensive battery of reviews of books on various "early American" topics. Issues will also include in-depth review articles, usually covering four to six books published in the last five years as well as individual reviews of new books of interest to historians of early America.
