The continuous growth of grid-connected photovoltaic projects leads to the challenge of system improvement and efficiency enhancement. The aim of this paper was to determine the reasonable working angles, including rotation angle and axis tilt angle, of the single-axis solar tracker (SAST) to improve the annual energy output of the grid-connected photovoltaic (GCPV) system using SAST. The paper used a case study of a GCPV system with power of 1.32 kWp using SAST in north-central of Vietnam. The energy output of the GCPV system using SAST with the variable working angle simulated by PVsyst software. The results were used to evaluate the suitability of the systems. The obtained results show that for the case of zero axis tilt angle, energy output of the GCPV system using SAST increases remarkably when the rotation angle increases from 0 to ±45°, and increases insignificantly when the rotation angle increases between ±45° and ±90°, and achieves an increase of about 20% compared to the energy output from the fixed horizontal mounted GCPV system. For the case of reasonable rotation angle ±45°, the energy output from the GCPV system using SAST has good efficiency with axis tilt angle between 0° and 20°, and peaks at axis tilt angle of 12°, gradually increasing the axis tilt angle reduces energy output.
