Face milling is one of the commonly used industrial processes for machining flat surfaces quickly and in a precise way. The present investigation aims at the fabrication of AA 5052 hybrid composite, with weight fractions 10 % of WC particles and 4 % graphite particles as reinforcements and investigates the effect of cutting parameters on the face milling performance. The experimental plan was made using the Taguchi L9 orthogonal array (OA). The face milling performance of the hybrid composites was quantitatively estimated by recording the values of average surface roughness, RMS surface roughness, ten point height of irregularities, radial thrust force, tangential cutting force, feed force and work-tool interface temperature. The aluminium hybrid composite was fabricated using the cost effective liquid metallurgy method, commonly termed as stir casting. Scanning Electron Microscopy was applied for the micro structural evaluation of the hybrid composites and the elemental composition was analysed using the Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy. Non-linear, statistically adequate mathematical models were developed for all the output responses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
