Abstrakt: Calcium Oxide (CaO) was synthesized from Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) extracted from waste chicken egg shells. The extraction of CaCO3 was done by Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) process. The preparation of CaO was carried out by the thermal decomposition of CaCO3 at a temperature of 900oC for varying time period of 20mins, 40mins and 60mins respectively. The metal oxide (CaO) was characterized for various analytical studies such as Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDAX). The porosity development of calcined CaO decreased with increasing temperature. The synthesized calcium oxide was used for the removal of an anionic dye (Acid Blue 9). The adsorption kinetics studies were carried out under varied parameter conditions such as temperature, concentration, pH and rotation speed (RPM) in batch mode. A monolayer adsorption of 48mg/g of dye was obtained for an equilibrium time of 120mins. The removal efficiency was ranging from 84% to 97% respectively. The kinetic studies were best fit with Langmuir isotherm with an R2 (correlation co-efficient) of 0.99. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
