The study describes the assumed form of teaching theology existing in Great Moravia as well as in the period immediately following its dissolution. The study gives an overview of the possible existence of group of scholars in Great Moravia even before the arrival of St. Cyril and Methodius, with whose arrival is generally associated the building of the schools in which the future priests studied. The work highlights not only the high level of schooling for domestic clergy founded after 863, but also the fact that it is highly probable that these schools existed even after Metod's death. After coming to Great Moravia in 863, Constantine and Methodius focused their efforts not only on proclaiming a new religion but also on schools that were used to prepare the domestic clergy. Part of the training of the domestic clergy at Great Moravian schools was also the teaching of ecclesiastical law. It is not appropriate to assume the education of secular officials at the time. Therefore, only clerics held positions in the administration requiring literacy. As we mentioned above, law was part of the teaching of clergy. The beginnings of teaching theology in our territory are thus the beginnings of the teaching of law, but also the beginnings of education as such, and thus also the beginnings of literacy.
