Abstrakt: The article proposes a whole population approach to address the problem of suicide risk linked to living alone. It refers to the concept of thwarted belongingness from the interpersonal theory of suicide and the integrated motivational-volitional theory as possible theories that explain the link between living alone and suicide risk. Interventions suggested to prevent suicidal behavior include ecological momentary assessments and restricting access to the methods used for suicide.
