In furtherance of the Indonesian government target on biodiesel as renewable energy used especially in automotive application, several attempts have been made to improve engine performance. Biodiesel has a higher kinematic viscosity and density than diesel oil that can affect the engine performance. In this study, a single-cylinder, four strokes, with a compression ratio of 18:1 was run using biodiesel B20 with a variation of inlet temperature of 30°C, 50°C, 60°C, and 70°C. Experiments were conducted at an engine speed of 1500 rpm and four different engine loads including 3 kg, 6 kg, 9 kg, and 12 kg. The result shows that the maximum effective power of 3.22 kW occurs at a load 12 kg at the temperature of 30° C. The minimum specific fuel consumption (SFC) of 0.32 kg/kWh was observed at a load of 9 kg with a temperature of 70 °C and the maximum thermal efficiency (ηth) of 29.52% was observed at a load of 9 kg with a temperature of 70 ° C.
