Abstrakt: Radon atoms exist in gaseous form and spread into the pore space driven by diffusion and advection. Some of them then release to the atmosphere and contribute to natural radiation. Further, radon is estimated to contribute on the increasing risk of lung cancer. This study limits the scope of radon isotope to only 222Rn, since it is the most possible isotope exist in the atmosphere. To inspect closely the influence of Air Exchange Rate (ACH) on indoor radon, the measurement of the exhalation of radon from building materials were done. A closed loop radon measurement involving RAD7 and accumulation chamber was set up. Resulting doses to a person who resides in a room constructed from the building materials were assessed by UNSCEAR method for different ACHs. Correlation between radon concentration and ACH built shows that radon has an important relationship with the ACH in a very significant way. The increase of ACH will significantly decrease the radon exposure. The comparation between the ACH effect on CO and radon reveals that ACH has a more significant effect to reduce radon than its effect on CO. An increase in ACH was found to exponentially decrease radon in the indoor environment, whereas it decreased CO linearly. In conclusion, ventilation plays a significant role to reduce radon concentration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
