Abstrakt: In this study is to study and evaluation the activity of Metal Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) as antimicrobial, when this material used as sealing apex of primary and permanent root canal during endodontic therapy. More precisely, where this study investigated the antibacterial MTA against Streptococcus mutans by using diffusion method. Thus, for evaluation MTA in vitro, we collect the samples by K-file from infected root canal in kirkuk province to reveal pathogenic microorganisms that causes dental caries. Then, the collected samples were cultured in blood agar and revealed only S. mutans. Therefore, we observe ability of MTA to inhibition and killing bacteria. In our study we collect 50 samples, there are 31 positive and other 19 were negative, then all 31 samples are S. mutans and there are different in diameters of inhibition zones. From statistical analysis, we obtained that about (38.7%, 41.9%, 12.9% and 6.5%) from positive isolates take (0-1, 2-3, 4-5 and 6-7 mm in diameter) respectively as an inhibition zone. MTA has good antimicrobial activity in root canal treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
