Smear microscopy was still widely used to estimate the number of mycobacteria in Acid Fast Baccili (AFB) scale, but its sensitivity was low. GeneXpert semiquantitative examination reporting in CT values provides potential mycobacterial load estimation. This study aims to analyze the correlation of GeneXpert MTB/Rif CT values with smear microscopic AFB scale and MTB culture Time to Detection (TTD). This research was an observational analytic study. A total of 70 samples diagnosed as suspected TB from RSUD Ibnu Sina Gresik and RSUD Dr. Soetomo were examined using GeneXpert, MTB culture and smear microscopy. The correlation of GeneXpert CT value, time to detection of MTB culture and AFB scale was analyzed by the Spearman correlation test. GeneXpert sensitivity and microscopic AFB to culture as gold standard were 94.74% and 81.58%, respectively. The highest correlation was found in the CT value GeneXpert with AFB microscopic scale (rs = -0.72513; p=0.0005), followed by the CT value correlation with TTD (rs = -0.583; p=0.0001) and microscopic AFB scale with TTD (rs 0.537; p = 0001). The CT genexpert value showed a fairly strong correlation with the AFB microscopic scale and could provide an estimate of bacterial load in the sample. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
