Abstrakt: The field experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Bailhongal, Karnataka during rabisummer 2020-21. The study revealed that the incidence of stem fly Melanagromyza sojae Zehnter started after 2 weeks and continued up to 30 days. Stem fly was observed in January sown crops while it was absent in early sown crop (November first and second fortnight). The incidence was very less in crops sown in December first and second fortnight. While, in January first fortnight the infestation percentage was increased. The seedling mortality caused by the infestation of stem fly varied from 6.57% at 10 DAS in soybean sown in first fortnight of December to 29.15% at 20 DAS in January second fortnight sown crop similarly, Stem tunneling per cent was varied from 9.53% at 30 DAS in December first fortnight sown crop to 41.15% at physiological maturity in January second fortnight sown crop and both stem tunneling and seedling mortality was in increasing trend in crops sown in December to January at fortnight interval. Finally, it concludes that stem fly is a major pest in summer sown or late sown crop (January). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
