Abstrakt: The article investigates attempts to unravel the mystery and reconstruct an ancient Greek statue with missing arms, called Venus de Milo, discovered on the Greek island of Milos in 1820. It informs about the statue's restoration by antiquities conservator Jean-Gaspard-Félix Ravaisson and his attempt to identify the missing arms using the Borghese Mars statue. The debate between Adolf Furtwängler's Hellenistic dating and Salomon Reinach's classical period ascription is discussed.
