Germplasm plays an important role in providing gene sources as the basic materials for assembling high-yielding varieties. The objective of this study is to disclose the diversity of Robusta coffee germplasm based on morphological characters. The characterization process was carried out starting from January to December 2019 at the Experimental Garden of Pakuwon, Sukabumi Indonesia with altitude of 450 m asl. The genetic materials consist of 36 accessions of Robusta coffee, with a spacing of 2.5 x 2.5 m. The data were analyzed descriptively by calculating the average value and the coefficient of variance. The qualitative character diversity index was calculated using Shannon and Weaver. The morphological data were then processed using cluster analysis. The results of the study showed that the diversity of morphological characters of the stem diameter, the number of bunches/branch, the distance between bunches, the number of fruits/bunch, the weight of 100 fruits; the length and the width of the leaves; the length of the petiole, and the production ranged from 9.93 to 39.06%. The maximum diversity index (H') was found in the Angle of insertion of primary branches (1.02) and the lowest was that of the leaf tip shape (H'=0.35). At the 70% similarity level, the cluster analysis grouped 36 accessions into seven groups with the maximum number of accessions being in group-IV (18). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
