The article discusses the importance of using advanced washers on bolted flanges during vessel breakout activities in chemical processing facilities. The Velocity Washer, a new washer technology, is introduced as a solution to reduce maintenance time, costs, and improve operator safety. The Velocity Washer eliminates galling, which is the primary cause of seized fasteners, by removing the load on a nut before turning the bolt. The article provides a real-world application of the Velocity Washer in a petrochemical manufacturing plant, where it successfully reduced breakout time and eliminated galling and hot work.
