Abstrakt: John Osborne's Look Back in Anger is a classic work of "Angry Young Men" in Britain, telling a post-war British young man Jimmy Porter's psychological journey of being angry. By focusing on the prominence of "figure", the reversal of "figure and ground" and the construction of super-foregrounded "figure" of the character and theme in the play, this paper analyzes the characterization, ethical implication and ethical appeal of Jimmy's anger. Osborne uses the "dominant" of "anger" to present the lives of British post-war young men and steer the audience to adjust their focuses on the dynamic changes of "figure and ground" so as to perceive the panoramic vision of what the playwright has depicted: individuals, family, and the society, which projects the "other" in the drama into the reader's "self" in real life and arouses the audience's introspection and reflection, so that the theme of "anger" as well as its ethical implication is sublimated. This play exhibits the playwright's ethical reflection on the causes, expressions and possible solutions of the "anger" among Angry Young Men. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
