Filling ratio effects on the refractive index of the composite media.

Abstrakt: Electromagnetic waves interfere with inclusions in composite material, creating electrical and magnetic moments, which influence the composite medium's macroscopic permittivity and permeability in bulk. In this paper, a negative low-loss material has been synthesized, showing electromagnetic properties with a negative index of refraction or a double negative index of refraction. The composite material is formed from a lattice of spheres of copper surrounded by air and other materials. The paper showed that the permittivity and permeability are greatly affected by the filling ratio. In turn, the required index of refraction of the composite material may be achieved by controlling the filling rate and the materials properties that contributed to the composite material's formation.
