Abstrakt: The article states that birds, especially water birds, have been implicated in the ecology of MVE virus in northern, or to the north of, Australia where the virus is said to be enzootic. Sporadic MVE epidemics in southern Australia are said to be initiated with the arrival of migrant birds and or infected mosquitos. Serological surveys of wild and domestic animals carried out after the 1951 and 1974 MVE epidemics in temperate Australia indicated that birds, and particularly water birds, were commonly infected. Investigators have provided useful data on the experimental infection of several bird species, including pigeons, Indian doves, domestic ducks, white-backed magpies and, particularly, Rufous night herons and egrets.
