The article discusses properties of phenylalanine hydroxylase in human foetal liver. In an experiment, activity was found in liver homogenates, with no apparent variation with gestational age. However, no activity was detected in kidney and muscle. For a long time it was widely believed that phenylalanine hydroxylase belonged to the group of enzymes induced either at or after birth in the mammalian liver. However, recently there have been several papers reporting activity of phenylalanine hydroxylase in the human foetal liver. |
