The study is related to understanding the factors which influence Industries to dispose of their plastic waste. This research paper will also describe various factors that influence them to prefer the Informal or Formal Waste Collection Sector. With the rise of urbanization, the past decade, India is witnessing serious concerns relating to the disposal of plastic waste. Plastic pollution is increasing drastically day by day. According to the comprehensive sector survey by Greenpeace International, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) Industries are the major contributor to the plastic pollution crisis. Their use of single-use plastic in their products has constantly been polluting the environment. However, this is just not limited to one industry; almost every industry pollutes the environment by unsafely dumping their plastic waste into the open. Moreover, this dumping is the Informal Sector collectors like Kabadiwallas or Rag pickers who dominate the sector with a 70% presence in urban cities. Though they are an essential part of the ecosystem due to their sheer presence, they lack the understanding of recycling all kinds of waste. As we know, plastics are non-biodegradable and take ages to decompose. Hence it becomes important to arrest this process and bring the onus to the Recyclers and other Formal Waste collectors into the mix. The recyclers are better equipped to handle the waste and provide transparency for the organization to know how its waste has been disposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
